Black Diamond Roundup
The roundup is an upscale western affair hosted by the Partners for Substance-free Citrus held at Black Diamond Ranch. The evening will include dinner, music, auction and even carriage rides from the parking lot to the front door. The dinner sets the tone for the coalition’s horse show the next day at Shipp’s Arena in Hernando.

Come join us at the Chet Cole Life Enrichment Center (address and directions below) for a night of great food and fun. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Cody’s Original Roadhouse will be providing succulent bar-b-que chicken and ribs, salad, garlic mashed potatoes and cheesecake with fruit topping. A full cash bar will be available. 

Our Silent Auction has no trash, so bring your checkbooks and your cash! 

The entertainment of the night will be provided by three local teams playing a game of Jeopardy hosted by our very own Bernie Leven. Come egg-on your favorites.

30th Anniversary Celebration of Whispering Pines Park
The City of Inverness cordially invites the public to attend the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Whispering Pines Park - the “jewel” of Citrus County and the regional facility that has been voted “Best of the Best” twelve times!

On Saturday, September 19th from 10:00am until 4:00pm the City of Inverness, along with the Rotary Club of Inverness will host various events to commemorate the opening of the park. 

Whispering Pines Park which opened its gates in 1979 has been transformed into a recreational facility that is visited by more than 500,000 people per year. From passive to active recreational activities – all are nestled within the 290 acre “forested” facility. 

At the celebration on the 19th, Inverness Rotary Club members will be on hand to cook up hot dogs which will be made available free to all attendees. There will be disc golf demonstrations, a hike on the Florida National Scenic Trail through Whispering Pines, swimming and activities at the Jr. Olympic pool, a scout demonstration, K-9 demonstration, information booths, cake and much more! All activities and events will be at no cost. The majority of the activities will be held at the group picnic pavilion, so mark your calendar and come out to “The Pines” and help us celebrate 30 great years!

Monthly Bird Walk on Pepper Creek Trail
WILDLIFE PARK TO HOST SEASON’S FIRST BIRD WALK ON SEPT. 26
-Experienced and novice birders are welcome-

HOMOSASSA – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in cooperation with Citrus County Audubon Society will host a monthly bird walk on Pepper Creek Trail on Saturday, September 26, 2009. This will be the first of seven bird walks to be offered at the wildlife park this season from September through April. 

Chip Cunningham, an experienced birder, will lead the walk on this trail, one of 21 birding trails in Citrus County that are part of the West Section of the Great Florida Birding Trail. Participants will meet at 7:45 a.m. at the entrance to the park’s Visitor Center and the bird walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. Binoculars and a field guide are recommended.

Pepper Creek Trail is approximately 3/4 mile in length and follows along the park’s tram road connecting the Visitor Center on U.S. 19 and the west entrance on Fishbowl Drive. Participants can either walk back or wait and take the first returning boat after the park opens. There is no charge to use the Pepper Creek trail or for the return boat trip. Monthly bird walks will be scheduled throughout the year, except the months of December, and May through August.
